thepatriotwhig (Buntingford Online Antiques) specialises in 17 th to 19 th century treen, with a
particular interest in English furniture, and all things 18 th century in date.

The name ‘thepatriotwhig’ has its origins in my studying 18 th century History at ‘A level and
subsequently at Leeds University. I have always had a particular interest in William Pulteney (a Whig
Politician) who, with other Whigs, formed a group of 40 or so likeminded politicians opposed to the
corrupt practices of Robert Walpole (Britain’s first Prime Minister). This group of politicians formed a
more effective Opposition than the Tories and they became known as, ‘ the patriot Whigs’.

In honour of William Pulteney it seemed only right to use the name ‘thepatriotwhig’ when setting up
this antiques enterprise.

The philosophy has always been to preserve items for future generations, so pieces are sometimes
bought for restoration before being offered for sale. No item is ever considered to be too far gone
for repair and renovation. I do not aim to restore items to ‘as new’ condition, but to carry out
sympathetic renovations, since I believe that genuine antiques should be allowed to show their
history.

All items are comprehensively described and photographed. A full condition report is always issued
alongside the description – my aim is to ensure that potential purchasers never have to ask
questions about the items I sell since they should find that they have all the details they require.
All items are carefully packed for distribution. I always use UPS as the courier as I have found them
to be the speediest and to take the most care. All items are sent with full tracking and the tracking
number is always provided to purchasers. Personal collection of items (by appointment) is always
welcome. I am based in Buntingford (East Herts. SG9).
