An 18th century oak spoon holder with fret carved cresting and central hanging hole

Some minor variation in the diameter of the holes retaining the spoons - only to be expected from a handmade item
The spoon holder shelf is attached via 8 nails which are clearly hand wrought with some variation in the size of the nail heads (as illustrated)
A very attractive decorative item
The photograph showing just 4 spoons illustrates the slight damage on those particular spoons
There is a touch mark on one of the spoons (as illustrated in the last photograph). Though I have consulted the 'Bible' on pewter ware: 'Pewter Marks and Old Pewter Ware' by Christopher A Markham, published in 1909 I am unable to identify the owner of this touch mark but this could well be a slip-top spoon dating to the 17th century
