18th century weaver's loom light (pendant/wall spike candle holder)

£200

18th century

Dated

Full Description

18th century weaver's loom light (pendant/wall spike candle holder)

Elongated stem terminating in a cone socket probably formed using the pike (or beak) at the end of an anvil

The cone is of the open seam type with the longitudinal edges of the cone not meeting

Most probably a weaver’s loom candle holder

Plain stem (rather than twisted) so probably English rather than Irish in origin

This is a pendant or wall spike candle holder and could be either suspended via a beam hook or

attached to a wall stud via the spike though there is a school of thought suggesting that the lateral

spike was simply there to prevent the pendant swinging around

This light has been mounted onto a board for display purposes and comes with a beeswax candle to add authenticity
