A rustic (country made) oak pot cupboard

Full Description

A rustic (country made) oak pot cupboard.

In detail we have the following:

The top is fixed in place via 8 dowels (presumably with glue as well). The dowels are unusual in that they vary in form from circular to square. This is evidence that this is a country made piece. It is possible that the top was at one time slightly larger and has been cut down so that it is the same size as the cabinet underneath

There is a single right handed door attached via two steel hinges

The door has an oak knob as the handle

The door is fielded but on the inside - this could signify that a mistake was made with this panel being fitted the wrong way round. Another reason for suggesting that this is a handmade piece of furniture is the fact that a through tenon is visible just below the left handed pilaster. There is not one on the right, suggesting that a mistake was made when the wood was being marked up. This is a minor error and reflects a human touch

There is a ball push catch which ensures that the door closes firmly

There are two vertical pegs on the inside of the cupboard (at the top and bottom) to ensure that the door is not pushed in too far

The cupboard rests on turned uprights united by a box stretcher

There are competently carved pilasters on either side of the door

Medullary rays feature on the top indicating that the wood for the top was deliberately chosen

Summary: A very solid oak cupboard and of a good size for a modern home
