An antique set of apothecary scales with weights in an oak box
In detail we have the following:
- an oak box with very early hinges, each consisting of a loop and split wires
- the lid opens to reveal a new piece of burgundy baize on the inside of the base. This has not been glued in position so is easily removable if desired
- the scales have recently been polished
- the balance beam is in steel and is very substantial
- chains attach the scale pans to the balance beam
- there are 13 weights in all. These are as follows:

- there is some minor damage to the oak box as shown in one of the photographs, and the clasp is broken as shown in the photographs
- there is a new piece of baize on the exterior of the base
