Full Description
An antique 18th century leather-clad pocket Hymn Book
There is no date of publication within this book, but towards the rear are verses of the chorus from Handel's Messiah. This means that this item could not have been published before 1742
Hymns include Hark, the Herald Angels, sing; Praise God from whom all blessings flow; and Come Holy Ghost, our hearts inspire (for Whit Sunday)
Condition:
- the spine is attached to the front and back covers but there is some separation from the front cover, no doubt through use, and the fact that this was a portable item
- al the pages are present. The pages are numbered through to 432
- the leather on the spine and on the front and back covers is worn
- some child scribbles on the inside of the front and rear covers suggesting that this Hymn Book was given to a bored child during lengthy services ............................ something which, unfortunately, I well remember !!!
A rare survivor
