Full Description
An antique, Victorian, dark oak square frame housing an oak mount enclosing a picture of an attractive young lady
I was stumped when I saw this at a recent Antiques Fair as to whether it was a print, photograph or some other artistic medium. The dealer selling it couldn’t help. I bought it because of its unusual nature and still love it, but as a dealer you have to be prepared to sell everything you buy
Having taken the frame apart to examine the picture in more detail I am alas, non the wiser. I cannot see via a magnifying glass the dimples which are a give-away that a picture is a print
This portrait has a very attractive mellow brown matte hue. It looks suspiciously like a photograph that may have been tinted in some way. As this is not an item of furniture I am way out of my depth in trying to enunciate an adequate description of it, but I have no doubt that someone will find it as attractive as I did when I set eyes on it
The mount is a very thin piece of oak. The medullary rays indicate that it was made from quarter sawn oak and is a sign of quality
This is ready to hang: the glass has been cleaned and new glazier points, hanging loops and cord have been added. Unusually, the frame is square rather than rectangular.
A very atmospheric picture
Apologies for the reflections on the photographs - I tried to eliminate these by taking the photos outside as well as inside but this hasn't been very successful
Postage is just to within the UK mainland with delivery being by UPS
