Full Description
A charming early 20th century pine cracket stool
In detail we have the following:
all original and no repairs
a vernacular cracket style stool with original rexine cover
this stool has the traditional cracket style slab ends with the usual 'V' shape cut-outs to produce the legs - very reminiscent of the ends found on 6 plank boarded chests
a very solid stool of small proportions
some of the original green-blue paint is in evidence on the inside of the 'V' shaped cut-outs
on the inside of the stool can be found stamped in black ink in large type 'Kelona Growers, Kelowna British Columbia'. Kelowna is known for its fruit and wine so I assume that the pine for this stool came from used packing cases. The pine is substantial being 20mm thick
the fabric on the cover of the stool is rexine (an artificial leather) which was extensively used in the period 1920-1950
This is a charming stool of small proportions. Being well made, no repairs were ever necessary: 8 significant brass screws were employed in the construction of the stool. This stool is in a condition commensurate with its age - the fabric is not pristine but there is no need for any re-upholstery work
