Full Description
An antique carriage foot warmer
This item is probably French dating to between 1890 and 1920 and was known as a chaufferette. It has been constructed from oak and pine with a tin grill beneath a substantial and nicely decorated steel top
In detail we have the following:
constructed from oak and pine with an ornamental tin grill exhibiting star shaped punched decoration
the grill lies below a substantial steel cover with intricate decoration
the wire handle moves freely and has a central wooden hand grip
the hand crafted oval-shaped inner tray which would have housed hot coals is present
the warmth from the coals escaped via the star shaped decoration of the tin grill, but also through four circular orifices in two sides of the body
Every part of this item has been cleaned and the body has been waxed
3 tea lights are included in the sale
Of no practical use today as a foot warmer (given central heating and other forms of warmth) this item still has a useful function to perform - it is a lovely atmospheric piece when tea lights or scented candles are placed within it
Postage is just to within the UK mainland with delivery being via UPS
Please see my other items which are predominantly 18th and 19th century in date
