Full Description
A small and charming 17th/18th century oak and iron bound strong box
Original wrought iron handle
Original oval escutcheon attached by means of metal pins
Original lock attached from the inside by hand wrought nails
The lid's perimeter is iron bound with two additional supporting pieces of iron to the lid to which the handle is attached
Excellent colour and patina
The underside of the lid is a fielded panel
Void interior, but cut-outs in the base and in both the front and back boards indicate the presence historically of a separate compartment no doubt housing a tille (a drawer) for keeping specific coins
The base has moulded decoration on all four sides
No evidence of repairs or restoration
