Full Description
Antique 17th/18th century oak spice cabinet
In detail we have the following:
A substantial oak top and base: the top is 20mm thick; the base is 15mm thick
There are 5 drawers with the following configuration:
Drawer 1: void interior
Drawer 2: divided into two partitions
Drawer 3: divided into two partitions
Drawer 4: void interior
Drawer 5: divided into two partitions
The brass knobs are not original to the piece, but clearly have some age, and may be replacements as fashions changed and the original handles were replaced
This cabinet has a pine carcass and is of nailed construction. It is very solidly constructed and has a lovely patina. Undoubtedly a country piece. Most probably the bottom drawer was used to house salt for cooking and/or expensive and imported pepper; the other four drawers being used to hold a variety of different and imported spices – the division of some of the drawers enabling a range of different spices to be housed within the same item

A very solidly constructed item weighing 5.8kgs unpacked
There are two circular burn marks on the top-as photographed
Lovely patina
