Full Description
Antique 19th century vernacular pine storage unit with 9 drawers
This is a vernacular/rustic piece of furniture with both the carcass and each drawer being hand made. That said, the drawers have dovetailed joints indicating that some pride was taken in the construction of this item
The handles are not uniform, indicating that during the life of this item make do and mend repairs were undertaken. I have left the handles as they are as they testify to the history and longevity of this unit. These different handles add a great deal of character to this unique item
The two hanging brackets are also handmade as witnessed by the irregular nature of the holes for screws. Given the comparative shortness of this unit (and height) it does not need to be wall mounted but could equally well sit on top of a base unit
Clearly, over time attempts have been made to 'freshen up' this by item by applying paint to it. There are the remnants of both green and brown paint to be found. I have left this residue in situ since items are only original once and it would be a shame to lose this originality
This is a highly individual item which has stood the test of time. It could find useful employment in a kitchen, craft room or garage. It is a solidly constructed and ready for immediate use
Delivery (just to mainland UK) will be via UPS, but personal collection from Buntingford (East Herts SG9) is most welcome.
