Antique copper casting or cooking pot

£35

1850-1890

Dated

Full Description

An unusual hand hammered and manufactured copper pot, thought to be a casting pot, but could also have been used as a cooking pot.

This is a heavy item weighing  1.9kgs and somewhat different from the many copper pots seen on auction sites. The pot is made from tin or iron overlaid with copper

Attractive deep collar and copper rivets

The two ear like protrusions are iron attached to the body of the item via copper rivets. These are substantial handles 15mm-20mm in diameter and would have been used to suspend the pot over a heat source via a chain

Condition:

Very good. The underside of the base is concave but the item sits squarely on the rim of the base. The interior of the item is verdigris in colour

This makes an ideal cover for a plant pot for a houseplant - the houseplant in the photographs is not included in the sale
