Antique dark oak panel of a classical scene - excellent condition

£140

19th century or earlier

Dated

Full Description

Antique oak panel consisting of a classically inspired theme

In detail we have the following:

A procession consisting of a seated lady in a carriage, the latter being pushed by a loin-clothed male. The lady is holding a dove (the symbol of peace and harmony) in her left hand and is escorted by a winged cherub (probably depicting Cupid). A further cherub is seated on the back of a centaur which is pulling the chariot. The procession is led by a lady playing a lyre, with all the details set against a matted ground

This panel has the hallmarks of being mid-Victorian in date, but has the colour we normally associate with Jacobean furniture, so may be of earlier date

Two brass hanging brackets are provided should these be required
