Antique early 19th century circular three legged milking stool
£175
Early 19th century
Dated
Full Description
An antique sturdy stool with a mellow patination - probably early 19th century in date. This slightly saucer-topped stool retains the original socketed legs together with three hand-made nails used to give additional support to the legs. There is very slight play in one of the legs but nothing requiring attention
The top is not perfectly circular due to both wear and natural seasoning of the wood as it continued to dry out
Dished underside with an area of chamfering around the perimeter (as indicated by the yellow arrow in one of the photographs)
Ring turned decoration to the legs
Minor woodworm damage to the underside of one of the legs but this stool sits perfectly on the ground. It has been treated with woodworm killer as part of my normal business practice
Summary:
A lovely decorative piece of vernacular furniture - a simple working piece of primitive form almost certainly used as a milking parlour stool
