Antique pair of oak foliate carvings

£150

17th - 19th centuries

Dated

Full Description

An antique pair of oak carvings

Each carving is linear in nature with a matted ground resembling the bark of a tree. Against this background is foliate decoration consisting of branches and leaves.

The back of one of these items shows where a knot in the oak has been lost

Each carving has a flat back. I have added saw tooth hangers so that these carvings can be hung on normal picture hooks

At some point these carvings have been mounted on plinths via rods. There was a hole in the bottom of one which I have filled with a piece of dowel to which has been applied dark oak coloured wax. The other still has the remains of a steel rod within it. I have covered the remains of this rod with dark oak coloured wax
