Full Description
An antique Victorian rosewood and mother of pearl writing slope
This is an unusual writing slope in two respects:
- the opening is not on the front face but on the top where there are two flaps
- this writing slope is not very high
In detail we have the following:
the profuse mother of pearl inlay is in very good condition with only minor loss in one area on the front left (best seen in the photographs)
there is a lock, but no key (the one shown in the photographs is included in the sale but is purely for decorative value). The tassle is light blue in colour
the black leather with gold tooling is in good condition
the hinges are original and are not loose
there is an inkwell, though the lid cannot be removed - probably due to ink having set
at the other end from the inkwell there is a small lid for a square storage area
the pen tray is present
either side of the pen tray are two areas with ski-slope type troughs - presumably made this way for the extraction of stamps or pen nibs
in one of the photographs (one of the sides) it looks as if there is a repair, but this isn't the case - it is just the differential colour of the rosewood
This is an ideal writing slope for anyone with a small desk, or who prefers something a little bit different from the normal rather chunky box-type slopes
Postage is free on this item, but postage is just to within the UK mainland
