Full Description
Antique, Georgian toilet mirror on stand in flame mahogany
A Georgian toilet mirror of rectangular form above a stand with a single drawer, all being in flame mahogany
In detail:
A single drawer with an oak carcass and pine base. The front face has been decorated in flame mahogany veneer
Original lock and escutcheon, the latter attached via brass pins
The drawer has two original Georgian shield drop handles typical of the Chippendale period c. 1750-1775. Of dovetailed construction
Unusually, the drawer has been lined on all faces with pinkish/reddish paper. It was not unusual for Georgians to undertake such a task, but it is unusual to find these days a toilet mirror with such an original feature
The bracket feet are of a style reminiscent of the walnut period of English furniture (1660-1730)
Haziness to the mirror plate (but still useable) indicative of the age of this item
Original finials atop the mirror plate supports
Toilet mirrors are readily available but the originality and condition of this one appealed when I was offered it by a fellow antiques dealer
Condition:
Some haziness to the mirror as noted above
Minor losses to the veneer on the stand as shown in some of the photographs. One veneer repair to the rear of the stand as shown in one of the photographs
The mirror plate supports are secure, and the mirror can be positioned at the desired angle
Dimensions:
Overall height (including the finials) 58.5cms
Overall width: 36cms
Overall depth: 16cms
Storage area of the drawer: 32cms by 14.5cms
Summary:
A charming and highly original Georgian mirror
Postage is just to the UK mainland where delivery will be via UPS.
